Sumitomo says its 2MW/8MWh vanadium reduction flow battery reached 99% operating rate at San Diego Gas & Electric’s (SDG&E) facility in California. The battery is expected to maintain at least 90 percent capacity in the electricity market for 20 years.
Sumitomo said that external experts were collecting data from the 2MW/8MWh Redox Flow Battery Demonstration Project until the end of 2021. A preliminary analysis in December revealed that the battery system reached 99% utilization in the final year of the project. Sumitomo believes that the battery system has the potential to maintain at least 90 percent capacity in the electricity market for 20 years.
