China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) says it has completed a 40 MW solar power and storage facility at an altitude of 3,000 meters. It is connected to a 6 MW/12 MWh battery storage and hosts grazing domestic animals.
“The project, built on high scaffolding and without a fence, enables the combination of green energy and livestock management, using the upper space for solar power production and the meadow for grazing at the same time,” the company said.
It did not explain how solar electricity production is integrated with animal farming. The area of the facility is approximately 930,000 square meters and it is located at an altitude of 3,000 meters, the company said, stating that it owns 100% of the project.
Despite recent plans to expand its renewable energy business, CNOOC has prioritized its oil exploration and development efforts, producing 163.9 million barrels of oil in the first quarter of 2023, up 8.6% from a year earlier.
“During the period, the company made 2 new discoveries and successfully evaluated 6 oil and gas structures,” CNOOC said in its financial report. “Construction of key projects progressed smoothly. Of the nine new projects that are scheduled to start production during the year, 5 projects have started installation.
