The African Development Bank (AfDB) has launched an expression of interest for a consultancy study on solar energy production in the Desert to Power Sahel countries. Those interested can submit their bids by June 7.

The bank launched the Desert to Power project in 2018. It aims to install 10 GW of solar power to provide electricity for 250 million people in the Sahel region of Africa.

The research examines the advantages and profitability of manufacturing or assembling solar panels in 11 countries. It also assesses the role of solar energy production in different economies.

“The Department of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PERN) requests eligible and interested consulting firms or associations of consulting firms to submit information on their qualifications and experience that demonstrate their ability to provide services (documentation, reference to similar services, experience in similar tasks, availability of qualified personnel, etc.), AfDB said.

It also asks for a technical and financial proposal from the consultant companies selected for the continuation. The services are expected to start on July 15, 2023 and last six months. Interested consultants have until June 7, 2023 to submit their offers.
