The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh led the annual sales of electric cars with a 15.15 percent share of the 1.2 million cars sold in 2022-23. It was followed by Maharashtra with a share of 12.72% and Karnataka with a share of 9.14%.
Annual sales of electric cars in India will exceed 1.2 million in 2023, up 174% year-on-year. Electric two-wheelers accounted for more than 60% of the cars sold. The share of electric three-wheelers was 29%, according to JMK Research’s annual India EV Report Card.
Uttar Pradesh accounted for the highest 15.15 per cent of the annual sales, followed by Maharashtra with 12.72 per cent and Karnataka with 9.14 per cent. Cumulative sales of electric cars in India were 2.3 million units by the end of fiscal year 2023.
Electric two-wheelers with a share of 48.76 percent of all sales were at the top, followed by electric three-wheelers with a share of 43.33 percent. The share of electric three-wheeled cargo vehicles was 3.65%, electric cars 3.85% and electric buses 0.17%.
Uttar Pradesh is the largest state in India for EV sales, accounting for 20.64 percent of the cumulative units between FY 2014 and FY 2022. It is followed by Maharashtra with 10.15% and Delhi with 8.85%.
Nexcharge, Okaya and Inverted are the top players in terms of cumulative nameplate battery capacity.
