Malvezzi Solar Park is now operational in Poggio Renatico, Italy, in the province of Ferrara (Emilia-Romagna), thanks to Scelta Rinnovabile (Renewable Choice), an online crowdfunding initiative promoted by Enel Green Power.
Stefano Bonaccini, president of the regional government of Emilia-Romagna, Nicola Lanzetta, director of Enel Group Italy, and Daniele took part in the inauguration of the approximately 17 MW plant, which supports the energy transition of the new country. Garuti, Mayor of Poggio Renatico.
The solar park consists of more than 30,000 modules. It produces approximately 25 GWh annually, which enables the annual emission of 11,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and the consumption of 5.4 million cubic meters of gas by replacing it with locally produced renewable energy.
The system consists of four side-by-side parts and includes bifacial modules that absorb energy from both sides of the solar panel and are mounted on solar trackers that track the sun’s movement, optimizing energy production.
Launched in October 2021, the Scelta Rinnovabile program, which aims to involve local communities in the development of green energy in areas where new renewable energy plants are being built, has gathered huge support, with a large number of Poggio Renatico residents participating in the network. fundraising campaign.
Participants were initially asked to freely choose how much they wanted to invest according to their preferences and benefited from a percentage of return on the funding as well as repayment of the capital invested. The fundraising campaign to build a solar power plant in this municipality of the Emilia-Romagna region was later extended to all citizens around the country and ended successfully, as the goal was reached in a few hours.
“Increasing use of renewable energy sources is a strategic lever for Italy’s independence and energy security, in addition to benefiting the environment and local regions,” says Nicola Lanzetta, head of Italy at Enel Group. “We have a concrete example of this here in Poggio Renatico, through the Scelta Rinnovabile initiative, citizens had the opportunity to actively participate in the construction of a new factory and participate in the energy transition.”
